Sturgeon Release Celebration

Sturgeon Release Celebration

Watch sturgeon release back into the wild at Valley View Area.

This celebration marks an exciting conservation milestone: lake sturgeon are returning to the Cuyahoga River after being absent for decades. Thanks to restoration efforts and improved water quality, these ancient fish are making a comeback. You and your family can witness this achievement firsthand and help send young sturgeon into their new home. Visitors will participate in small group releases, with the chance to help place a young sturgeon into the river while learning about the watershed restoration work underway. The event welcomes all ages and is free to attend, though you'll need to register in advance to participate in a sturgeon release. On the same day, partner organizations including Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Cleveland Metroparks are hosting their own related events nearby. For more details or to register, contact the Nature Realm Visitors Center at 330-865-8065 (open Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and Sunday noon–5 p.m.).
