Spree With Me: Wildlife Along the Canal
Guided nature hike exploring wildlife along the canal โ perfect for curious kids.
Join us for a guided hike along the canal towpath that combines outdoor activity with local history and nature exploration. This 2.2-mile round-trip walk takes you from the Wilbeth trailhead to Summit Lake Nature Center and back, offering families a chance to stretch their legs while learning about the area's past and present wildlife. Along the way, your guide will share how the historic Ohio & Erie Canal shaped the landscape and which plants and animals have adapted to thrive in the region today.
This is a perfect outing for families who enjoy getting outside and discovering nature without needing specialized gear or experience. The hike counts toward completing your Fall Hiking Spree challenge, so it's a great way to work toward that goal while enjoying an evening adventure. For questions about the program, you can reach the Nature Realm Visitors Center at 330-865-8065 (Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.).
