Kids in the Garden

Gardening program for kids at Summit Lake Nature Center in Akron.

Kids in the Garden is a hands-on program at Summit Lake Nature Center where families learn about seed saving and participate in a seed swap. The hour-long session runs from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and welcomes everyone—whether you're bringing seeds you've saved from your own garden, extra seeds from packets at home, or just want to learn and take home some new varieties. To participate in the swap, seeds should be labeled with their variety name and packaged in small amounts. Vegetables, herbs, and native plants are especially encouraged, though all seeds are welcome. This program runs monthly through October, giving your family multiple chances to join in. It's a great way for kids to explore gardening, learn about plant propagation, and build a seed collection for future growing seasons.
