Kids in the Garden

Hands-on garden learning for kids at Summit Lake Nature Center.

Kids in the Garden is a hands-on program perfect for young gardeners and their families. The event features a short educational session about seed saving, followed by a community seed swap where families can exchange seeds they've grown at home or have extras from store-bought packets. Whether your children are budding botanists or just curious about where food comes from, this is a great way to learn practical gardening skills while connecting with other families. Bring seeds you'd like to share—vegetables, herbs, and native plants are especially welcome, though all varieties are accepted. Just make sure each type is labeled with its name and divided into small amounts for trading. This recurring program runs through October at Summit Lake Nature Center, so you can join in during the time that works best for your family's schedule.
