Drumplay (XCSB New Studio Benefit)
Drumplay (XCSB New Studio Benefit) at Treelawn Social Club
Drumplay, a Cleveland-based ensemble with nearly 35 years of performing history, brings together some of the region's most talented musicians for an evening of world jazz. The group specializes in what they call "rhythmprovisations"—spontaneous creative performances that blend Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and Middle Eastern musical traditions with jazz influences. Each show is unique, so you never know exactly what you'll hear. This particular concert serves as a benefit for XCSB's new studios and welcomes all ages.
What makes this performance special is its spoken-word component, honoring the legacy of Daniel Thompson, Cuyahoga County's first Poet Laureate. Thompson's poetry explores meaningful themes like homelessness and social justice, and the ensemble weaves his words into their music. Admission is $15 and includes a free Drumplay CD, making it a nice keepsake from the evening. The venue opens at 6 p.m. for the benefit concert.
